So earlier this week I had made plans to go on a lunch date with some friends. Well come Saturday morning, I woke up not feeling so well and didn’t make it to my lunch date. I rested for a while until I decided to go take a walk and get some food. After paying, I walked back to my apartment. As I was walking, I saw my landlord talking with a man on the corner of the street. He waved and called me over, saying “I’m not feeling very well and I need to go the hospital.”
He looked very pale and was holding his heart so I followed him into his home to make sure he went to the hospital. He seemed very confused and was fumbling with various medications, many of which he didn’t know which to take. He started crying and saying how his wife died and now he has no one but his dog. He is all alone living in his house trying to make it through the days.
Anyhow, to make a long story short he went to the emergency room shortly after our talking. Before he left, he asked me to take care of his dog and started to cry a little.
My landlord is around 80 years old and just recently lost his wife about a few weeks ago. His only family left is his son who is away frequently for business trips. I didn’t know much about my landlord but I felt that this must be the reason why I didn’t make it to lunch. He needed help and I was there.
I haven’t heard from him except that he is staying overnight in the hospital until they find out what is wrong with him. I think to myself, what would have happened if I had decided to go to lunch? Or if I walked down the street a few minutes later and missed my landlord? Its interesting to me to see how when we need help the most, someone comes around or something will happen to make sure we get it.
Some people may say its pure coincidence but I definitely feel that it was meant to be.
