How My Intuition Became My Home

staiway in forest disappearing in strong fog

“At times you have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. What you’ll discover will be wonderful. What you’ll discover is yourself.” — Alan Alda

Our intuition manifests in different ways. Often times we experience intuitive phenomena with our families, loved ones, dreams and the paranormal. Sometimes our intuition may peak during transitions or after loss and trauma.

For me, my experience of discovering my spiritual gifts was a little different than some of the common stories you hear of people seeing spirits growing up or things of sort.

I grew up in an extremely challenging and abusive home where my parents weren’t the safest nor healthiest role models to guide or show me the way.

My natural response to the constant emotional distress was to turn inward to my inner voice and imagination. I discovered my gifts of creativity, writing, and intuition. I found safety, refuge and a home in these gifts and spent many nights journaling and praying to the Universe.

I often consulted with my intuition and looked for signs in my daily environment as answers. If I couldn’t change my outside circumstances I could most definitely change the little world that I lived in within.

I didn’t know at the time that I had spiritual gifts. I only knew I was unique and had a story I wanted to share to help someone else find their way through a dark time. You see, I always had this resilient spirit and I never let my circumstances bring me down for too long.

I just knew that I was given a story that I could possibly help save someone else’s life with. I knew that my childhood and teen years of trauma and pain didn’t happen for nothing.

I wasn’t going to leave behind a war zone with just scars. I knew that the universe had a special plan for me so I surrendered and let my soul guide me.

After I moved away from home, I vowed I would leave it all behind, start fresh and forget about all of it. However, no matter how far we try to run from the past it always does seem to find us.

I realized I couldn’t run, forget or bury it so I allowed it to transform my life. My intuitive and spiritual gifts began to blossom and I found a passion in healing myself not just through therapy but with spirituality.

I started to meditate and attended workshops on every type of spiritual art out there including psychic development, mediumship, crystal healing and hypnotherapy. With every class I took I discovered a real passion in spirituality. My soul began to heal and release parts of my past that still haunted me.

My nightmares and night terrors went away. I got over a lot of anxiety with public speaking and speaking in general. I stopped being afraid of people and started looking them in the eye again. I gave the world a chance and opened up to building more intimate connections despite my fears.

In this journey I discovered, healed and released so much. I realized I really did have a gift of helping people and not just any gift but an array of spiritual and intuitive gifts.

Now I teach spiritual mentorship and work with people privately. I help them see their light when they have lost their way.

I let my intuition guide me to a home that is sacred and only mine, my spiritual home.

We are so much more than stories and what has happened to us.

We are miracles. Allow yours to take place.

Breaking out of our Comfort Zone & Fears

freedom  Regardless of where we are at in life, there is always an aspect that we are extremely comfortable in whether it’s a relationship, career, location, dietary habits, etc. The reasons behind this may be because we are truly happy with being comfortable, safety, stability or whatever else drives us to be there in that place of comfort.

Is comfort necessarily a bad thing? No. However it is when you are no longer growing, when you remain stagnant in this place, your “comfort zone”.  Some of us grow accustomed to the predictable, the known and unwavering energy that this has provided. So then what happens? What if we are miserable yet comfortable in the misery? This can relate to many things, i.e. career choice/fear of relationships/fear of leaving a relationship, location, health habits, exercise, spiritual choices.

Are we really creatures of habit? Perhaps. I’d like to think we are capable of so much more though. All my life I have been trying to break past that mold of comfort. Lately I have hit a wall in some areas and know that in order for me to step into my true power I must let go of some things, including those I surround myself with. It’s hard to leave that place that served to be a source of something stable or comfort for so long.

I recently read somewhere that behind all of our fears is love. Love is limitless. Now this has nothing to do with romantic love, this is just love for life, love for yourself, for what makes you happy and for those you care about. So if we could somehow channel this love into our lives more I think we could break past the molds we create, the prisons we live in and the burdens we carry all out of comfort.

So what’s it going to be? How has this first month of 2014 treated you? Have you shown up for yourself and your success? What steps are you taking to break out of that comfort zone? We truly are capable of so much more than where we are standing. I’ve manage to channel a lifetime of abuse into a successful career and used it as my motivation to help others.

Perhaps you can also channel your experiences, your place of comfort or discomfort and excel beyond your own expectations. I’m not saying we all need to be like me. I’m only encouraging you to consider your options. Looking at your life right now, what are you comfortable yet uncomfortable with in your life? What can you do today, at this very moment to make changes to break out of that mold?

Every tiny step counts. Whatever we can do to start activating the energy to move is when we begin to grow and to move outside of our comfort zone into the new path for our life. Yes, it can be scary but I swear it’s worth it and never  ever once think it’s too late.

New Year, New Moon, New You!

new-moon-jan-2014Happy 2014! This year has a special energetic vibration because for the first time in 19 years we started the first official day of 2014 with a new moon! A new moon  represents new beginnings, chapter and opportunity to start fresh. How rare for us to literally and symbolically start off 2014 with a clean slate!

This new moon energy may inspire people to plant seeds for the future, recharge goals or create new ones such as our infamous new year’s resolutions. There is no better time than now to really start putting those dreams and goals to work.

The great thing about this new moon is the universe gave it to us twice this month so if you missed the window of new moon energy this week, focus your energy for the next one at the end of this month!

Sometimes as we begin our new year we tend to reflect on the last one which can definitely create mixed emotions, regrets, and also a sense of gratitude. Wherever your reflections take you, just remember to focus on the present and not dwell on the past. It’s much easier said than done but practicing mindfulness for at least 5 minutes a day this year will help to enhance your experience of the new year and being present.

With this new year and new moon, our souls don’t automatically just reset and we become a new person. However we can take this energy and focus on changing the aspects of ourselves and our lives to create a new sense of self or environment.

Perhaps you’ve been wanting to focus on your spirituality but have lacked the motivation or want to change your job/career, eat better, exercise or have better relationships. Sometimes when we think of a new life for ourselves or a new self, we think we need to make drastic overnight changes for it to be really in effect. However change doesn’t work like that. It does for some but for the average person, we make a resolution/goal, stick to it for a little while and then fall back on it.

So how can we take steps to creating a new life or a better self? Baby steps. Most of us want to run before we can walk. For anything to become a habit, studies show it takes approximately 21 days. That’s almost an entire month! For the next 21 days, take baby steps towards the things you want to see manifest in your life. Instead of trying to make it to the gym every day, make it at least twice a week.  If you want to learn how to meditate, look up a class to attend or download some free meditations. Every step, no matter how big or small is one step closer to achieving that vision of your new life, career or higher self.

It takes time and patience but with anything that we commit to results will soon come. Happy New Year and may all of your dreams come true!

When Searching For Happiness.

“Happiness often comes when least expected.” – Hector and the Search for Happiness

In our search for happiness, we often overlook the simple things that come as  tiny blessings unexpectedly.

For example, recently I was invited to go see a movie. When I arrived at the theater, immediately something felt weird.  The person who took my ticket stub was acting strange, the movie didn’t start on time and to top it off, it was the WRONG movie. For some odd reason, the movies had been switched.

Looking at this situation, I could easily just have focused on all the negatives and been extremely disappointed. However, there was a positive tiny blessing that came out of it.  I didn’t get to see the movie I wanted but in exchange not only was I refunded, I received two passes to any movie to use any time.

Sometimes things may not work out the way we expect them to but in my situation with the movie theater, happiness came when least expected.

It’s in the unexpected where real surprise and happiness can be found.

One of the 5 rules for happiness is to expect less. What are you expecting from life that may not be contributing to your happiness? Is there anything you can do to change those expectations?

A Life of Happiness.

Do you ever hear someone say, “When I do this then I will be happy”?

So often, we think of happiness as a place we arrive at, a destination. But what happens when you reach that goal or get to that place where you think you will be happy?

You keep going, that’s what happens. When we real that ultimate goal of supposed happiness we make a new one and think that will be the key to our happiness. Then we strive and push forward trying to manifest the next goal so we can then truly be happy.

Are you starting to see a pattern here? We are always going to think that there is something better for us and will always want more in life. However, happiness doesn’t come from having more or achieving more. Happiness comes in how we live our daily lives.

We can go about our daily routines and ignore the small things that make us happy like someone complimenting you, lunch with a close friend or simply having a home to go to at the end of the day.

We can easily take these small things for granted and often do. Happiness comes from taking notice of what you do have and are given each day rather than some obtained state or destination you have to reach before you can experience true happiness.

So the next time you catch yourself thinking you will be truly happy when…just remind yourself of what you can be happy about here, right now, in the present moment.
